Nanofabrication Specialist

About the company. Silmeco ApS, founded in 2013, is now the world leading producer of commercial SERS substrates. Silmeco specializes in mass fabrication, process development and quality testing of SERS-active surfaces that utilize nanopillar-based structures as their core technology. Under the brand name SERStrate™, these nanostructured substrates are well-known worldwide for their superior, and reliable performance. Silmeco’s customers includes both the industrial and academic sector. SERStrate™ has been used in more than 100 peer-reviewed scientific publications with a wide range of applications including defence and security applications. Silmeco has an extensive customer network and routinely collaborates with academic, as well as industrial partners in bringing SERS detection based products to the market.

About the position. We are looking for a nanofabrication specialist to primarily focus on EU Horizon 2020 project titled SERSing: “Advanced Surface-enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS) based technologies for gas and liquids sensING in the area of chemical protection”. The goal of the SERSing project is to enable fast detection and identification of chemical hazards at low concentrations in gas and liquid phase. In addition to being a project coordinator of the SERSing project, Silmeco will mostly focus on fabrication of plasmonic substrates for SERS detection, development and fabrication of microfluidic SERS units for detection of chemical threats in gas and liquids.

Work field, responsibilities, and tasks. The nanofabrication specialist will work in the area of SERS-based molecular detection where a SERS substrate is key. Raman spectroscopy is a well-known spectroscopy technique for identifying various molecular species. SERS, on the other hand, is a powerful experimental technique that utilizes plasmonic nanostructures to enhance otherwise very weak Raman scattering signals. This tremendous amplification of the Raman scattering signal enables detection of trace amounts of target molecules.

The nanofabrication specialist will design, develop and fabricate new types of SERS substrates and SERS-integrated microfluidic devices suitable for gas and liquid sampling and detection using portable, handheld Raman spectrometers. The device performance will be tested in collaboration with the SERSing project partners.

Qualifications. You have the ability to drive the project independently and achieve ambitious goals. Ideally, the candidate has background in nanoplasmonics, Raman spectroscopy and/or surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS), fabrication and characterization of SERS substrates, design and fabrication of microfluidic devices, and micro- and nanofabrication techniques. Experience in SERS-based molecular detection and/or centrifugal microfluidics is a plus. If you have another background that fits the project, you are welcome to apply.

At Silmeco ApS, we have strong competences in nanoplasmonics and SERS, both theory and experimental parts, and several years of experience in the development of nanopillar-based, high-performance SERS substrates and assays for detection of target analytes in complex matrices (e.g. biological fluids and food samples).

You have experience with some of the following:

What we offer. Silmeco ApS is a small, growing company. Our SERS technology is well-known and recognized worldwide. We offer a competitive salary and a rewarding, challenging job in an international environment that provides plenty of opportunities for professional growth. You’ll be able to engage and drive the development of new, exciting technologies as a part of a large scale EU project with seven partners on-board from both academia and industry.

Application. Please send your CV and/or further questions to [email protected] and we will reply as soon as possible. We evaluate candidates on a continuous basis. The position is available at the earliest from January 1st 2021.

Silmeco Horizon2020 3SERSing project is funded by Horizon 2020 Framework Programme of the European Union under grant agreement number 883390.
